Birthdays, cakes and phone calls

Today is my birthday.
I am now 28.
28 is such a lovely age. It lets you look back and reflect on where you have been so far, while still allowing you plenty of time to still see where you want to go.
I hope they’re selling maps.
Drew sent this to my hotmail account. It’s a list of noteworthy’s on this date:
14 March
1991: Birmingham Six freed after 16 years
The Birmingham Six walk free from jail after their convictions for the murder of 21 people in two pubs are quashed by the Court of Appeal.
1984: Sinn Fein leader shot in street attack
Gunmen shoot and injure the Sinn Fein president, Gerry Adams, in an attack in central Belfast.
1964: Jack Ruby sentenced to death
Jack Ruby has been sentenced to death after being found guilty of the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald.
1960: Radio telescope makes space history
The radio telescope at Jodrell Bank sets a new space record making contact with the American Pioneer V satellite at a distance of 407,000 miles.
1958: ‘Bonny’ Prince Albert of Monaco born
A celebratory 101-gun salute has been fired in Monaco after Princess Grace – formerly film star Grace Kelly – gave birth to a son.
12h16 (posted in blogTO in their Daily Brew section for today):
The 2006 Census results were revealed yesterday. Milton grew by 71%, Brampton 33%, Vaughan 31%, and Barrie by 19%. Toronto’s population grew by just 0.9% over the same period, and you’re one of 31,612,897 in Canada.
The high-profile trial of former media mogul Conrad Black is set to begin in Chicago today. The wiki for Conrad Black provides a decent summary of how he ended up where he now is.
Ontario lotteries are facing more scrutiny related to fraudulent winnings by vendors, and slot machines in the province also continue to be investigated on allegations they display subliminal messages. Dishonesty is making lots of people rich.
New laws that will crack down on street racing are expected before the summer arrives. No more fun fun fun on the makeshift Autobaun (and hopefully no more accidents and deaths).
This caught my eye. Apparently March 14th has been declared a holiday, called Steak and BJ Day.
The basis was that every 14th of February you get the chance to display your fondness for a significant other by showering her with gifts, flowers, dinner, shows and any other baubles that women find romantic. Every Valentines day you rack your brains for that one special, unique gift that will show your wife or girlfriend that you really do care for them more than any other. Now ladies, I’ll let you in on a little secret; guys really don’t enjoy this that much. Sure seeing that smile on your face when we get it right is priceless, but that smile is the result of weeks of blood, sweat and consideration. Another secret; guys feel left out. That’s right, there’s no special holiday for the ladies to show their appreciation for the men in their life. Men as a whole are either too proud or too embarrassed to admit it.
Which is why the new holiday has been created.
March 14th is now officially "Steak and Blowjob Day". Simple, effective and self explanatory, this holiday has been created so that ladies finally have a day to show their man how much they care for him.
No cards, no flowers, no special nights on the town; the name of the holiday explains it all, just a steak and a BJ. Thats it. Finally, this twin pair of Valentine’s Day and Steak and Blowjob Day will usher in a new age of love as men everywhere try THAT much harder in February to ensure a memorable March 14th!
The word is already beginning to spread, but as with any new idea, it needs a little push to start the ball rolling. So spread the word, and help bring love and peace to this crazy world. And, of course, steak and BJ’s.
Please blame the founder Tom Birdsey, if you are offended by this. Do not shoot the messenger!!
We’re getting dinner ready. Barbeque steak with mushrooms, onions and potatoes. Yummmm
Going to wrap this up for the night.
Spoke to everyone who’s called to wish me a Happy Birthday.
My aunt Nancy and Uncle Doug are driving up from Markham tomorrow, to take some of the burden off Mom with Noreen.
Noreen herself has had a lousy day, as the staff at the hospital tried on several occasions to adjust her feeding tube, to no avail.
